How to choose a broker for trading EUR/USD and GBP/USD

Published: · Updated:

EUR/USD and GBP/USD are the most liquid pairs and almost every broker shows low spreads on them. So the differences are in the details, not in the advertising.

Checklist

  1. Which legal entity will serve you and who regulates it (EU/UK/Australian conditions differ from offshore ones).
  2. The average spread in your trading hours — especially at the start of the Asian session and at the trading-day rollover, when spreads are usually wider.
  3. Round-turn commission and the full cost of a trade (see the article on account types).
  4. Long and short swap and the triple-swap day.
  5. Behaviour around news: NFP, CPI, Fed and ECB decisions come with spread widening and slippage.
  6. The platform (MT4/MT5) and whether Expert Advisors are allowed.
  7. Deposit and withdrawal methods, fees and inactivity charges.

GBP/USD specifics

Sterling has historically been more volatile than the euro: GBP/USD's average daily range is usually wider, and its reaction to Bank of England decisions and UK inflation sharper. For strategies with a fixed level distance that means more triggers and a higher series risk.

How FOX Professional helps
