How to analyse EUR/USD with several market factors
No indicator answers "where will the price go". A better question is: do several independent factors agree — and what changes if they diverge.
Trend: EMA and structure
The EMA 20/50/200 show direction and its stability: price above all three with the EMAs stacked in order is an uptrend. Market structure (the sequence of highs and lows) checks the same thing on price extremes. When the EMAs say "down" but structure has not yet confirmed, confidence is lower. Look at several timeframes: direction on H4 and D1 weighs more than on M15.
Momentum and strength: RSI, MACD, ADX
- RSI — speed of the move and overextended zones; extreme readings in a trend mean a higher pullback risk, not a reversal.
- MACD — momentum building or fading.
- ADX — trend strength regardless of direction; a low ADX means even the right direction may take a long time to play out.
Intermarket factor: DXY
The euro is the largest component of the US Dollar Index (DXY), so EUR/USD and DXY usually move in opposite directions. If EUR/USD falls while DXY does not rise, the move is not confirmed by the dollar — a reason to lower confidence.
Fundamental backdrop and events
Fed and ECB decisions, inflation, growth and employment set the backdrop for each currency. The nearest significant release (NFP, CPI, a rate decision) can break a technical scenario within minutes — so its time belongs next to the analysis.
